Sponsoring a Charity Golf Tournament

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Putting together a golf tournament is a great way to gather friends, family and community together at once.  Everyone participating always enjoys themselves and it is a great way to raise money for charities.  Choosing to sponsor a charity golf tournament is a good business move for several different reasons.  One of the most beneficial things from sponsoring a tournament is all the inexpensive advertising and exposure your business will get.  There will be advertising before, during, and after the event usually with fliers, banners, newspaper ads and on the tournament’s website.  Your business name will also be published in the tournament program.  As a sponsor you can donate cash, prizes and awards, giveaways, food or anything else the tournament might need.  Sponsoring a charity golf tournament shows your company’s support for that organization or cause.  It helps to raise your business profile in the community and shows your philanthropic side.

5 Rules of Golfing Etiquette

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Etiquette Rule One: Leave your cell phone in the car. If you want to experience golf rage (similar to road rage), just have your cell phone ring during a golfer’s swing.

Etiquette Rule Two: Arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled starting time, check in with the club’s booking office to confirm your starting time and have your equipment ready to play.

Etiquette Rule Three: Assess the skills of your group. If your group consists of beginners, it might be worth your while to inquire into the skill level of the group waiting behind you. If these individuals are single digit handicappers, playing from the blue tees, they are going to be running up on your group no matter what you do. Let them play through; it will save hassles later in the round.

Etiquette Rule Four: Golf courses have found, through years of experience, that the maximum number of players that should start at the same time is four; although it’s possible to start with less, but usually never more. If the golf course is busy (usually on weekends), and your party is made up of just two players, you may be asked to join up with another two some. This is not compulsory, but it is a proven fact that one or two players will usually play faster then a foursome. One or two players running up on a foursome can lead to animosity. Some courses will not allow a single player on weekends when the course is extremely busy.

Etiquette Rule Five: If your group or the group in front of you is playing slowly, that may cause the pace of play for the entire course to slow down appreciably. Unwritten golf etiquette says, you or the group in front of you should offer to let the faster playing group, play through. No one likes the feeling of being chased, so let faster groups play through.

Golf Tournament Gifts

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Golf shirts and golf tournament gifts can be decorated with a sponsor’s company name or logo on it. Many golf tournaments have dual logos - those of the sponsor and the event itself. You can often find sponsors to underwrite the costs of some of the custom golf shirts and gifts. Sponsors appreciate the visibility they receive via their logos on golf tournament gifts used during an event.Golf gifts are given before, during and after a golf tournament. Tee gifts, usually are of a practical nature and are given on site before the golf outing or tournament begins. They are often meant to be used by participants during and after the event.

Golf awards and prizes, typically of greater value, are given to tournament winners (always members of the first-place foursome, but often, too, the second-place finishers and other runners-up). Awards and prizes also are given to winners of individual contests held during the tournament, such as Longest Drive, Longest Putt and Closest-to-the-Pin.

TGA can help you plan a special golf tournament by creating special tournament gifts for your tournament.
